Lincoln/Market/Irving Streets

The City of Saco needed significant upgrades to its infrastructure in one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city. Most of the original, underground pipe installations date back from 1885-1910. R.J. Grondin & Sons was selected as the prime contractor to not only upgrade the water, sewer and drainage systems for these three streets but to also rebuild the roadways afterwards. We replaced over 4,000 feet of drainage pipe ranging in sizes from 6” to 24”. We also replaced over 4,000 feet of sewer main ranging in sizes from 6” to 12”. Over 4,500 feet of water main was replaced as part of the project and those pipe sizes ranged from 2” to 26”. One unique and challenging piece of the project was that we had to directional drill a short piece of the drainage pipe underneath an existing 12” water main and 24” sewer main. We also utilized a technology called pipe bursting to expand an existing 8” drainage line into a 12”. This allowed greater flow in an environmentally sensitive area without having to dig it up. Once all the underground utilities were replaced, we continued by replacing sub-base gravels for the roadways and then paving them all with new pavement. Also, part of the project was installation of all new curbing and new sidewalks along all the streets to make them more pedestrian friendly for the neighborhood.

You name it, we work on it!
